‘6,782 students in Kalinga benefitted from Free Higher Education for 2021-2022’ – CHED Cordillera

Tabuk City, Kalinga – A total of 6,782 college students in Kalinga benefitted from the Free Higher Education program for 2021-2022, according to Commission on Higher Education -Cordillera (CHED-CAR).


Beneficiaries were those who passed the admission and retention policies of the institution, no previous undergraduate degree, and not overstaying at the college level.

The program under R.A. 10931 or the Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act provides free tuition, miscellaneous and other school fees for students studying in government state universities and colleges.


For said program, only Kalinga State University students availed as said institution is the sole government state university in the province.


In the Cordillera, the agency said a total of 40,000 public college and university students were granted educational aid.

OIC Chief Education Program Specialist Menzie Kuengan of CHED CAR said 6,990 were from Abra, 4,020 from Apayao, 9,236 from Benguet, 8,576 from Ifugao, and 5,491 from Mt. Province.


RA 10931 has another program, the Tertiary Education Subsidy (TES), which the agency said, benefitted 4,179 students from private state universities and colleges in the region.
