Apayao maintains outstanding performance in CARAA meet

Apayao, Philippines – Apayao delegation showed off yet another outstanding performance in the Cordillera Administrative Region Athletic Association (CARAA) Meet held in Baguio City from April 29 to May 1, 2023.

From placing fifth in the 2018 regional sports meet, Apayao jumped to second place in 2019. Back then, Governor Elias Bulut Jr. stressed thorough “preparation and cooperation” were the keys to their achievement.

The province did not let up and maintained their spot in this year’s CARAA meet comeback.

Apayao harvested a total medal tally of 52 gold, 54 silver, and 86 bronze behind the perennial powerhouse - Baguio City. The elementary players raked 27-25-38, while their counterpart in the secondary level chipped in a 25-29-48 medal haul.

Said province showed strong performance in aerogymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics tournament, shotput, among other events.

The reigning supreme amassed 211-119-54 from both elementary and secondary levels.

Coming in third is Benguet with 37-60-62 overall finish followed by Mt. Province with 15-36-41; Tabuk City with 15-24-56; Ifugao with 12-20-42; Abra with 5-22-52; and Kalinga with 5-17-36 standing.

On Monday, local officials, school personnel and athletes who represented Apayao had a thanksgiving party to celebrate their success as they aim for better performance for the next CARAA Meet.

Winning athletes and artists will advance to the 2023 Palarong Pambansa slated for July 29 to August 5 in Marikina City, after earning their ticket in the recently concluded regional competition.
