Flora, Apayao - The provincial government of Apayao through its Provincial Health Office will be conducting a Tuberculosis and Human Immunodeficiency Virus detection outreach program among its municipalities.

Aligned with the Department of Health’s National Tuberculosis Control Program Manual of Operations 2014, the program aims to find out and eliminate all forms of TB and HIV in Apayao, specifically among the high-risk groups who may not seek health facility consultation.

Last week, Oct. 03 - 04, 2023, said program was first conducted in the municipality of Flora, wherein, at least 200 participants, both adults and children, underwent symptom screenings and chest X-rays to find out if they have said diseases.

The program, as cited by the Apayao Public Information Office, shall likewise be conducted in the province’s other municipalities in the coming days.

In connection, the DOH-Cordillera revealed that there are a total of 1,730 cases of TB in the Cordillera region from January to September this year, of which 65 have already died from the disease.

The agency likewise listed 1,008 confirmed HIV cases in the region since 1984, after 73 additional cases were observed in the first six months of 2023.

To address the problem, DOH-Cordillera advised the public to seek treatment immediately if they notice symptoms of such diseases.
