Apayao siblings capture 4 gold medals in Singapore Taekwondo Open Championships

Conner, Apayao – Perseverance and hard work paid off for siblings Bhea Janiz and Leif Einstein ‘Apollo’ Begay after winning 4 gold medals during the recently concluded taekwondo championships held in Singapore.


Bhea and Apollo of Conner, Apayao are among the delegates from the Philippines who competed against 9 other countries during the 8th Daedo/18th International Clubs Open Taekwondo Championships at Toa Payoh Sports Hall on December 9-11, 2022.

According to Ripang Elementary School where the two are currently studying, 10-year-old Bhea collected two gold medals for Kyukpa and Pomsae and silver for Sparring.


Apollo, 12 also got two gold medals for Pomsae and Sparring.


Coach Ruth Viernes conveyed that right preparation and discipline are the foundations of their win in the international arena. She emphasized that victory comes with perseverance.


Viernes further expressed she didn’t doubt the Begay’s siblings ability to bring home medals for Apayao and the Philippines as they possess the self-discipline needed in the sports since their first day of joining Taekwondo.


Bhea and Apollo are the kids of Engineer Brent Begay, a Professor at Apayao State College and Rhea Begay, a businesswoman.
