Abra, Philippines – An armed civilian died after exchanging fire with authorities in Bangued, Abra this February 6.

The Philippine National Police Cordillera informed that the shoot-out happened when personnel from Bangued Municipal Police Station responded to a report from a concerned citizen, regarding an armed individual roaming around their area.

Upon receiving the information, the police immediately conducted intelligence monitoring wherein they located the suspect identified as Mark Apura De Guzman, also known as Macmac coming from Capitulation Street at the place of the incident.

The operatives flagged down the suspect who was on board his motorcycle due to a violation of curfew hours. The police report cited that at that instance, De Guzman allegedly brought out his gun and fired against the operatives.

This prompted the police to fire back.

De Guzman tried to escape towards the Astudillo Compound at Santiago Street, Zone 7, Bangued, but the operative pursued him, resulting in another gunfight.

The suspect was hit and was rushed by the police to Abra Provincial Hospital. Unfortunately, he was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

No one was harmed on the part of the police, and investigation on the case is still ongoing.
