Western Uma, Lubuagan eyes to become as the municipality's “Egg Basket”

Lubuagan, Kalinga – Mayor Charisma Anne Dickpus bids for Barangay Western Uma to become the “Egg Basket” of the municipality, with the establishment of an initial mass egg production project in said barangay.

“In-request tayo ti kastoy a proyekto tapnu imbes nga individually given ti tulong ket, imaymaysa tayu nu kastoy a dadakkel a proyekto tapnu adda impact na. Tapnu nu agbalin nga enterprise, ma-sustain nga usto daytoy,” Mayor Dickpus said in a recent interview.

This came after the Department of Agriculture reported that members of the Latawan, Ag-agama and Mallongan Farmers Association Incorporated (LAMFAI) were able to gain P130,000 from their sales since they started producing and selling table eggs in November 2021.

Last year, said farmer group with 90 members was able to avail of an egg production project intervention worth P2,495,190 from DA through its Special Area for Agricultural Development Program.

The project provided 1,254 heads RTL chicken, 600 bags layer feeds, 20 vials fowl pox vaccine, 30 units fabricated cages, 12 rolls HDPE pipe, 10 rolls laminated sack, 10 rolls poultry net, 50 pcs egg tray, 2 units egg scaler, and 1 unit generator.

DA-SAAD in partnership with the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Lubuagan also donated a lot area and materials for the construction of their communal egg production facility.

Currently, the group estimates producing a total of 17 trays per day and is likely to increase their daily harvest to supply more barangays in the municipality.

Mayor Dickpus said that Western Uma becoming a local egg supplier, is an advantage to the municipality, as this shall help them prosper, to gain their own revenue, and create jobs that will support families in the community.

She added that the project will not only be beneficial for the iLubuagen, but this is also advantageous to nearby communities and municipalities.

“Kesa rumwar nga mapan ag-purchase ti adayo iti kailyan ket adda ditan nga asideg kanyada, dakkel ti matipid dagiti households, income pay iti kailyan, ken pati dagiti asideg ti Lubuagan ket matulungan na,” Dickpus concluded.
