Baguio to file case against its DPWH-District Engineering Office over corruption issues

Tabuk City, Kalinga – The city government of Baguio is determined to file ‘test case’ against its Department of Public Works and Highways - District Engineering Office to prevent corruption and substandard projects.

Through the inspection of the City LGU, it was alleged that the side walk project along Leonard Wood Road, Bonifacio Road and South Drive are among the substandard projects under the said office.

Mayor Benjamin Magalong, through PTV-Cordillera, said the project under the agency is a ‘waste of money’ and unless they file cases, the corruption will not stop.

“We are making an announcement na we’re going to build better, wider, quality sidewalks to encourage people to walk pero kung ganun naman ang ginagawa ng DPWH doon sa kanilang projects eh nakakalungkot,” Magalong stated.

According to the mayor, they have already informed the Central Office of their move and they are waiting for the department’s response or action. Magalong believes that it is not only in Baguio that such substandard projects are being implemented.

The issue, however, is not given proper attention in other places.
