Body of man who drowned while crossing Bakun River, Benguet found

Bakun, Benguet – Almost three days after the 47-year-old farmer was swept away by the water current of Bakun River, his body was found on Saturday, August 20 by search and retrieval team of the Princes Town Regional Corporation, according to the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMC) of Bakun.


The search and retrieval was done with the assistance of some community volunteers and the search and retrieval team of Bakun.


The lifeless body of Mr. Mateo Dal-it, the victim, was taken out from the river around 11 Am of said date

The Bakun MDRRMC said his right leg was clamped by two stones in the middle of the Bakun River where he was retrieved. This is 150 meters away from where he was carried away by the raging waters of the river.


His body is now home for his wake in Dalingoan, Sinacbat, Bakun.


As recalled Dal-it was taken by the strong current of the river while he was leading cows across along with his 58-year-old companion, Bobby Atoling. He still managed to assist the first cow in crossing the river but while trying to pull the second one, he was carried away.


When his companion threw the rope of the second cow, he was not able to get it causing for him to ran towards the rope which resulted to the incident.


Drowning incidents usually happens during the rainy months and local government units in the Cordilleras advise their constituents to take extra caution when in bodies of water.
