BSU retains crown in 2023 CARASUC meet

Tabuk City, Kalinga – Student athletes of Benguet State University will be forming the bulk of the Cordillera region in the Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges (PASUC) athletic meet and socio-cultural festival slated for October 2023 in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte.


This is after the university was able to defend its overall championship crown in the 2023 Cordillera Administrative Region Association of State Universities and Colleges (CARASUC) Athletic Meet and Culture and the Arts Festival held from April 18 – 21, 2023.


BSU amassed 127 gold medals, 73 silver and 32 bronze medals in sports and athletics competition.


The overall champion dominated team sport events such as baseball, basketball women (5v5) and basketball women (3v3), badminton men, football, futsal, volleyball men, beach volleyball men, sepak takraw men and women, dance sports Latin and standard, lawn tennis women, and chess men, according to the official student publication of KSU – The Earthline.


Some 31 of its 127 gold medals were from the athletic events, added the publication.

The host school - Kalinga State University (KSU) finished campaign as the first runner-up with a medal haul of 41 followed by Mountain Province State Polytechnic College (MPSPC) with 32 gold medals; Ifugao State University (IFSU) with 25; University of Abra (UA) with 15 and Apayao State College (ASC) with 10.


In the socio-cultural competition, BSU garnered 149 points, while KSU got 135; UA, 99; IFSU, 73; ASC, 67; and MPSPC with 58 points.


Both the male and female representatives of BSU were crowned Mr. and Ms. CARASUC 2023, respectively.


In a statement, BSU said the unforgettable tournament was a testament to the boundless potential of the human body and the power of dedication and teamwork of their delegates.


“…it was clear that the BSU athletes had not only made history but also inspired generations to come with their remarkable achievements,” the school added.
