Tabuk City, Kalinga – Dawn Mass or Simbang Gabi has been part of the observance of the Christmas season in the Philippines. Despite the pandemic, Filipinos still go to their respective churches at 4:30 in the morning to attend the said mass.

It is feared that the gathering of people at churches may make Kalinga even more prone to Covid-19 virus. Recently Tinglayan locked down the whole municipality because of a sudden surge of Covid-19 positive cases.

As of today, the province has a total of 536, and 7 new cases recorded.

The Simbang Gabi commenced this December 16, and it has been observed by the Philippine National Police – Kalinga who were deployed to ensure that the minimum health standards are being followed that many are attending the mass.

Fortunately, Kalinga Police Provincial Director PCol. Davy Vicente Limmong said that churches in the province are so far compliant to the health protocols.

“We observed nga okay met. So far they’re complying,” he said.

Moreover, he advised the public to continuesly wear their face mask, face shield, and follow prescribed social distancing. Also, those who are vulnerable to Covid-19, he said, are still discouraged to go out from their houses, “they can still pray metlang ijay balbalay da.”

“We celebrate Christmas in a different way this time tapnu para kanyatayo metlang ket hopefully by next year ket lesser iti problema tayo,” he added.

Meantime, Simbang Gabi will conclude on December 24.
