Clearing operations ongoing on 24 landslides that happened along Lubuagan – Batong Buhay Road

Pasil, Kalinga – With Typhoon Paeng bringing continuous heavy downpours in the province, 24 landslides along the Lubuagan – Batong Buhay Road have been reported by the DPWH Upper Kalinga District Engineering Office (UKDEO).

Clearing operations on said road manned by District Engineer Teddy Owek are already ongoing, according to Endolyn Amador of said office.

Out of the 24 slides, some parts of Pasil, Lubuagan and Balbalan are not included. She added that among the estimated 24 slides, 2 road portions were already washed out.

Since Upper Kalinga has only two heavy equipment, Amador said they are currently utilizing equipment owned by private contractors near the area.

“Medyo marigatan ti clearing operation kasi situated ti dadduma nga heavy equipment kadagiti dadduma pay nga slides. Maysa idiay Balbalan ken other stakeholders nga tumultulong ket adda idiay Ableg,” she said.

For queries on the completion of clearing operations, Amador admitted it will take time as the office only owned two heavy equipment necessary for the road clearing.

As of 8 AM this morning, some roads in Upper Kalinga were also reported to be closed to traffic.

These include the national road in Bangad, Tinglayan (soil collapse), road in Maling, Balbalan (due to fallen trees), 2 road sections in Balinciagao Pasil (soil collapse and mudflow), 2 in Ableg, Pasil (soil collapse, fallen tree), road in Pantikian, Balbalan(soil collapse) and road in Bulalayao, Balbalan, also due to soil erosion.
