Construction of P67M Makilo Bridge in Tinglayan begins


Tinglayan, Kalinga – A more secure bridge that will guarantee safer and easier access for travelers will soon be constructed in Bugnay, Tinglayan.

The Makilo Bridge has been scheduled for replacement and was listed as one of the priority projects of the Department of Public Works and Highways—Upper Kalinga in 2023.


On Friday, Nov. 10, its groundbreaking ceremony, which signals the start of its construction, was held.


The event was spearheaded by the personnel of DPWH-Upper Kalinga, headed by District Engineer Teodoro Owek.


It was attended by notable officials, including Congressman Allen Jesse Mangaoang, Mayor Sacrament Gumilab, and barangay officials of the benefiting community.


Funded with a total of P67 million, the planned steel arc bridge will have a total length of 101.5 meters.

The first phase of the project, according to DPWH-Upper Kalinga, will be completed in June next year.


To recall, DPWH-Upper Kalinga has been allotted this year P2.6 billion for 79 projects, of which Makilo Bridge is one of those appropriated with some of the greatest funds.


In a statement, Mayor Sacrament Gumilab expressed gratitude to the department for putting the construction of the bridge on top of their priority projects, emphasizing that its erection is beneficial not only to his constituents in Bugnay but also to travelers coming from other municipalities and provinces.
