Tanudan, Kalinga – The Philippine Rural Development Project- Regional Project Coordination Office of the Department of Agriculture - Cordillera applauded the support being shown by the provincial government unit of Kalinga for the development of road projects, ‘having been a commendable implementer of DA-PRDP subprojects.’

Information Officer of DA – Cordillera, Jovelyn Valenciano who represented Regional Executive Director, Cameron P. Odsey relayed this during the groundbreaking ceremony of the Banneng – Darulog – Bawac Farm-to-Market Road Improvement on April 22, 2022.

Valenciano underscored the hard work performed by the provincial government in providing the necessary documents needed for the implementation of the subproject despite the COVID-19 pandemic.

Like the national government which contributed 10% counterpart to the subproject thru DA, members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan led by Vice-Governor Atty. Dave Odiem have worked for the release of the 10% counterpart of Kalinga LGU. Eighty percent of the project is funded by World Bank.

“Isunga daytoy apo, makita yu nu kasanu ti panangsuporta ti mangidadaulo iti Kalinga kadagiti proyekto a maipapa-ay iti probinsiya tayo,” said Valenciano.

Also, the Information Officer of DA – Cordillera praised Provincial Agriculturist Engr. Domingo Bakilan, ‘the man behind the project,’ for his efforts in pursuing the road project.

Moreover, Valenciano commended the five affected lot or house owners for their willingness to sacrifice or donate a portion of their lot to give way for the road improvement.

Road and crop production maintenance

The Information Officer then asked the community to help with the project implementation and its maintenance once done.

“Nu nalpas dayta a nasemento, nu adda kuma nakita yu kaspangarigan, nagtudu, nagkaroon ti landslide anya ti rumbeng nga aramiden tayo? Tumulung tayo a mapan ikkaten tapnu iti kasta ket han a madadael,” Valenciano added.

Further, she reminded that the reason for the improvement of the Banneng – Darulog – Bawac Farm-to-Market Road is to support and enhance the production of coffee, banana, and rice agriculture sector in the locality, thus the community should commit to sustain their crops.

“Han tayo kuma lipatan nga agmula ladta ti kape karu ta ditoy Kalinga ti bulk producers ti kape su han tayo kuma a pukawen diay tapnu iti kasta ket adadu pay ti proyekto nga umay ditoy Kalinga gapu ti kape,” Valenciano concluded.
