DILG-CAR recognizes Barangay Magsaysay in Tabuk having Ideal Functional Barangay Dev’t Council

Tabuk City, Kalinga – Barangay Magsaysay, Tabuk City was recognized by the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) - Cordillera for having an Ideal Functional Barangay Development Council (BDC) for the year 2021.

In a letter sent to Punong Barangay Enrique Sagayo, signed by DILG-CAR Regional Director Araceli San Jose, Barangay Magsaysay is invited to receive the recognition on Tuesday, October 25, at Hotel Elizabeth, Baguio City.

Having an Ideal Functional BDC, according to DILG, means that the BDC headed by the Punong Barangay acquired a rating of 80-100% and was able to achieve all indicators for evaluating functionality.

Indicators for said assessment include the following areas: organization; meetings; policies and plans; and accomplishments.

The monitoring of the functionality of BDCs is part of evaluating their performance vis-a-vis their mandated functions and responsibilities. The result of the assessment will enable the barangay governments to make the BDCs viable community-based institutions, explained the agency.

In an interview with Sagayo, he expressed that he did not expect to be awarded for such as they were merely carrying out their duties in the locality.

“I'm so happy and very thankful to God for this award. I didn't expect this. What I know is I am only doing my job and responsibility as a barangay captain in my barangay,” said the Punong Barangay.

Sagayo acknowledged the efforts of his constituents, which he described as a great contributory factor to the attainment of the award.
