BAGUIO CITY, Philippines – A newborn baby was found lifeless in a pile of garbage in Barangay Engineers Hill, Baguio City, early Tuesday morning, November 3.

Authorities said a garbage collector discovered the infant at around 4:10 a.m. while collecting waste along Martinez Street in Purok 1.

The newborn was reportedly wrapped in a diaper and a T-shirt and placed inside a red eco-bag.

The garbage collector immediately notified barangay officials, who subsequently reported the incident to the police.

The Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) Station 3 is reviewing available closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage in the area to identify the person who left the infant and establish the identity of the baby's parents.

Police are also appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has information that could help the investigation to come forward and coordinate with authorities.

The incident recalls at least four reported cases of abandoned fetuses or newborn babies discovered in Baguio City last year, prompting the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) to appeal to mothers and parents not to resort to inhumane means when dealing with unwanted pregnancies or children.

The CSWDO reminded those experiencing distress or facing difficult circumstances that assistance is available through its hotlines at 0967-208-4777, 0951-750-5039, or (074) 422-6056.
