First batch of Tinglayan Elders get COVID-19 shot

Tinglayan, Kalinga – The week-long vaccination for 100 Tinglayan senior citizens is on-going in this municipality since Monday, May 17, 2021.


Twenty-five senior citizens have already received their first dose as of this writing and will be waiting for 4 to 12 weeks before getting their second shot.


Number of elderly persons eligible for the AstraZeneca jabs according to April Lattot, Public Health Associate of the Rural Health Unit of Tinglayan, is 1,091, but only 100 individuals shall be getting the jab this week since only 10 vials is available for inoculation.

One vial she said is good for 10 individuals.


“Dapat diay 10 vials nga AstraZeneca ket mai-administer hanggang May 21 ngem nu adda manen sumangpet nga allocation ti Tinglayan, tuloy manen ti bakuna,” she said.



Recipients, according to the Municipal Information Officer (MIO), were eager to have the vaccine while some disclosed that they have been waiting for the roll-out in the municipality.


Tinglayan MIO, in a press release, has also cited Julian Taguitag, one of the vaccinees, who has immediately responded in getting the jab and is now encouraging his wife to also get the vaccine.


As for Leocadia Mucay, a local teacher in the municipality, she said that she has been waiting for the vaccine’s arrival saying, “Idi pay lang nga ururayen mi daytoy vaccine ket tatta lang nga adda.”

Meantime, Tinglayan Mayor Sacrament Gumilab is again appealing to the Ytinglayan elderly who have yet to receive the AstraZeneca vaccine to immediately visit the vaccination site for them to get the vaccine.


As recalled, Tinglayan has already completed the vaccination of 73 priority individuals to include 43 health personnel, five persons with comorbidities or under the A3 priority list and 25 LGU personnel who are under the Quick Substitution List (QSL).
