Flora, Apayao - Flora, Apayao decided to employ a deserving Agta as Local School Board teacher to be part of DepEd workforce in Balasi Elementary School as manpower augmentation to provide quality basic education to the youngsters in the communities served by the said school.

LSB teachers are locally paid teachers hired by a local government unit to aid the DepEd on the lack of workforce in schools.

In the meeting in Barangay Balasi, it was announced that Carmelita Passion of the Agta tribe shall be employed as LSB teacher once classes begin. She graduated in 2020 and is currently working at the Mayor's Office of Flora, Apayao.

She was presented to Flora Municipal Mayor Rodolfo Juan, LGU officials, Schools Division Superintendent Irene Angway, Chief Education Supervisor Joy Saleng, Schools Division personnel, School Heads, and teachers during the LSB meeting on August 17, 2023.

Mayor Juan during the event said Flora LGU shall pledge financial entitlements, through the LGU's Special Education Fund (SEF), once the LSB teacher starts serving her designation.

Recognizing the impact of hiring Agta teachers on the indigenous learners in Balasi village, SDS Angway complemented the ethnic background of Passion as an advantage in educating her fellows.

"They know their dialect, they understand each other, they are adept with their culture, so, I'm confident they will be effective," she claimed.

Meanwhile, she is set to take their licensure examination for teachers on September 24. In relation to this, SDS Angway initiated review sessions, to be administered by Flora School heads and other SDO officials, including herself.

Mayor Juan, for his part, guaranteed some aid for the reviewee's transportation expenses and allowances. Aside from her, Agta members Mercy Valdez Laguimon, 26; and Argie Aguanta Ganaden, 21, who graduated earlier this year at Apayao State College, will join the review sessions.

In a recently published news about them, they testified how they persevered amidst hardships, clinging to their dream of becoming teachers.

They incessantly gave thanks to those who were part of their success.

"We are forever indebted to the people who have provided us strength in our most trying moments, in our lowest desperate needs, they became our source of determination, our strongholds. Now, that we are in another chapter in life, they still scaffold us, bestowing us opportunities to impact the world, no matter where we came from," they expressed, dedicating such to their families, LGU Flora, LGU Sta. Marcela, DepEd Apayao, and to their alma mater.
