Free organic fertilizers for Tanudan farmers affected by Typhoon Ulysses

Tanudan, Kalinga – Sacks of organic fertilizers will be distributed to Typhoon Ulysses affected rice farmers in Tanudan at the start of the year, the Municipal Agricultural Services of Tanudan informed.


The damages incurred by farmers were validated by the Tanudan Municipal Agricultural Services, and the names of the affected farmers were submitted to the region to obtain the 260 sacks of organic fertilizers as farm aid.


Based on the data of the said office, there is a total of 30 rice farmers whose crops were damaged and destroyed by Super Typhoon Ulysses that hit Luzon in November 2020.

Salvador Balicao, Agriculturist II, mentioned that the first 130 sacks were already hauled this January 4 and were brought to Mabaca Municipal Sub-office while the remaining 130 will be hauled next week.


He added that the number of sacks for each beneficiary will depend on the area of crops that the typhoon destroyed.


“Nu diay accumulated area na nga naperdian ket one hectare, isu iti equivalent na diay assistance bale 8.6 sacks iti per beneficiary nu kasdiay,” he explained.

The beneficiaries will be contacted by their office to inform them to get their organic fertilizers soon.


Meanwhile, around P300 million agricultural products in Cordillera were damaged due to Ulysses. This affected around 10,000 farmers. Corn products topped most of the losses at P167 million, followed by rice at P114 million.
