Ifugao builds P5M 'Halfway House' to temporarily shelter local rebel returnees

Updated: Oct 6, 2021

Kiangan, Ifugao – A P5million pesos halfway house or a center for helping others to adjust to new life as a temporary shelter for rebel returnees in this province has been established.

This would provide rebels who have returned to the fold of the law an opportunity to settle down before they start a brand-new life with the mainstream society.

The facility will also serve for livelihood programs and trainings for the rebel returnees before they can be reintegrated back into the community to start over with their families.

The two-storey Halfway House is a project of the Enhance Comprehensive Local Integration Program (ECLIP) through the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG).

According to LTC Franz Diamante, the project started back in Davao Oriental and is still ongoing with livelihood programs and trainings being implemented for the rebel returnees who will temporarily live in said facility.

In a message, Provincial Governor Jerry Dalipog hoped that the building will be fully utilized according to its purpose and, as just said, that it will not be halfway used, just like the given name.

The province disclosed that the National Government and the Provincial Government have the responsibility to take care of the rebel returnees as they seek for a new life.

Meanwhile, PCOL Mariano reiterated that in order for the building to be used, he hopes that more rebels surrender and that their recruitment of fellow Ifugaos will cease.

Provincial Governor Dalipog together with Reverend Brayle Bagyan, Vice-Governor Glenn D. Prudenciano, Commander of 54IB LTC Franz Josef Diamante, PCOL David D. Mariano and DILG PD Regina Elizabeth Mammag led the ribbon cutting, blessing and Inauguration of the facility at Tiger Hill, Baguinge, Kiangan, Ifugao on September 6, 2021.
