Ifugao woodcarver dies in Tuba, Benguet fire

Tuba, Benguet – A 22-year-old woodcarver, who is a native of Ifugao Province, died in a fire incident that transpired at 10 PM on Thursday, November 11, 2021, in two wood carving houses and a residential house at Greenwoods Subdivision, Tadiangan, Tuba, Benguet.

The victim, who was totally burned during the incident, was identified as Luis Binwag Munliting, single, and a resident of Km 6, Asin Road, Tadiangan, Tuba, Benguet.

An initial report from Tuba Municipal Police Station disclosed that the victim, who was drunk during the occurrence of the fire, was asleep that he was not able to save himself.

As reported, fire out was declared at 1:17 AM on Friday, November 12, three hours after the fire began.

In his interview with Bombo Radyo Baguio, Senior Fire Inspector Glenn Pang-et, Fire Marshal of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP)-Tuba said that amount of damages in the fire incident stands at over P5 million.

Pang-et said the cost of damages was huge as pieces of machinery, finished products, and wood materials supposed to be sculpted were razed by the fire.

The owners of the wood carving houses are James Kidongen and Dexter Bucasan.

Meantime, an investigation is still being conducted to determine the cause of the fire.
