Baguio City, Philippines – Dean Dianne Balogal of Baguio City will be representing the Philippines during the Miss Tourism World pageant this year, after being crowned as Hiyas ng Pilipinas Tourism World 2022.

Said first-ever Hiyas ng Pilipinas pageant was held at Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino on March 28, 2022.

The 23-year-old Baguio City bet is a graduate of Bachelor of Science and Nursing and currently working as Nursing Staff at the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center. The beauty queen is the founder of Magandang Kalusugan Charity in the city.

Balogal likewise won the Darling of the Press and Face of Eva Beauty during the Preliminary Competition of the nationwide pageant.

Through her social media account, she thanked the organization for trusting her to be the pioneer ambassador of Hiyas ng Pilipinas.

She also expressed gratitude to those who helped her ‘throughout her journey’ including Baguio City Mayor Benjamin B. Magalong and his wife, Congressman Mark Go, Baguio Tourism headed by Alec Mapalo, Public Information Office - City of Baguio, among others.

During the closed-door interview aired by Hiyas ng Pilipinas Official YouTube channel, Balogal shared that growing up has not been easy for her having to ‘endure so much pain, struggle, and loss,’ but such challenges, she said, have given her the strength, expressing that she is ‘grateful for she was given strong legs to conquer the universe.’

Her communication skill was showcased in the Question and Answer portion, where a judge asked her why a Filipina is so diverse in culture.

“A Filipina so diverse in culture because the culture in her. A Filipina walks the culture, speaks the culture. A Filipina is the culture of the Philippines. And also a Filipina is a progressive Filipina, a Filipina who challenges the system when she sees that there’s something that needs to be changed or that there’s something that needs to be improved. A Filipina is an empowered woman and that, itself is powerful,” Ms. Balogal replied.

Also, she believes that “It is important to have a voice, especially on issues that matter in our society today, but as a beauty queen, we need to really filter and research and explore our options because people listen to us. We need to give valuable insights so that people could also make their informed decisions, informed insights as well.”

How can tourism be a tool in improving mental health?

“Tourism can be a tool in mental health because when you explore the city, like for example, I’m from Baguio City, when I am down, actually, I go to places that I feel safe, with that I can explore and experience with my friends and my family.

I think that tourism can make you have a relationship with other people so that you could also inspire other people and inspire yourself as well, while doing that and that will nourish your mental health,” underscored the beauty queen of Baguio.

Among the judges who selected the winners include Miss International Queen Philippines 2022 Fuschia Anne Ravena, Miss Supranational 2013 Mutya Datul, Binibining Pilipinas Grand International 2021 Samantha Panlilio, Miss Supranational 2018 Top 10 Jehza Huelar, former "Pinoy Big Brother" housemate Franki Russell, and others.
