Tabuk City, Kalinga – Decorated iKalinga Paralympian Jerrold Pete Mangliwan has once again made the nation proud after bringing home two medals from the 13th ASEAN Para Games, held from January 20 to 26 in Thailand.

During the six-day competition, the Philippine delegation finished fourth overall in the medal tally with a total of 134 medals. The performance marked a milestone, as it was the country’s largest medal haul since joining the ASEAN Para Games in 2001.

Among the athletes who represented the Philippines in this historic achievement was Mangliwan, a wheelchair racer from Tabuk City. Serving as the flag-bearer during the opening ceremony, he competed in the Men’s 400m T52 and Men’s 800m T52 events, where he secured silver medals in both races.

With another achievement added to his growing list of accomplishments, Mangliwan expressed his excitement at having contributed to the historic performance of the Philippine para-athletes.

“Nakaka-proud lang at historic moment para sa amin. At nakapag-ambag din ako ng dalawang silver sa team, at lahat naman ng expectations ay na-meet,” he told GURU Press Cordillera.

When asked about what comes next, the iKalinga Paralympian said they will resume training after a week to prepare for the qualifying rounds of an international competition scheduled later this year.
