Kalinga gets over P2M from DA-CAR’s 2023 food security programs


Tabuk City, Kalinga – Kalinga province was allocated the biggest slice of funding among provinces in the Cordillera for the 2023 Department of Agriculture-Cordillera’s food security programs.


Food security is among the pressing problems in the country with recent experiences of calamities and inflation challenging families to make both ends meet.


The province will get P2,178,250 worth of programs and projects from the Cordillera Provincial Agricultural and Fisheries Extension Systems (CPAFES) 2023 budget.

This was announced during the Regional Year-end Assessment and 2023 Planning Workshop conducted on December 14, as relayed by the Provincial Governor’s Office- Information Section.


This is considered to be the highest budget allocated for a province in the region which will come from the P11 million fund of the department’s Agricultural Training Institute (ATI).


This shall be utilized in the production enhancement and improvement of the identified priority commodities in the Cordillera next year.


As reported, identified priority produce that will be subject for enhancement include the Heirloom Rice, coffee, banana, commercial rice, corn, mango, lanzones, rambutan, Kalinga oranges, cacao, and poultry animals such as carabao, cattle, goat, and tilapia.

‘The fund is a reward’


In a press release by the PGO-Information Section, it said the allocation is a reward for the efforts of the Provincial Agricultural Office as being the first one to submit their packaged CPAFE plan.


The plan was adopted by the Provincial Development Council on November 18, 2022.


Provincial Agricultural and Fisheries Extension Systems


PAFES was formed to bring extension services to the grassroots level amid the challenges of devolution and as a means to strengthen the collaboration between DA, local government units, academe, and private sector.


DA said that “with PAFES, the province serves as an extension hub that synchronizes agricultural plans and programs as well as orchestrate the activities of the various stakeholders.”
