Kalinga opens 126th PCSA month-long celebration with Walk, Governor’s Cup

TABUK CITY, Kalinga — Government workers in Kalinga kicked off the 126th Philippine Civil Service Anniversary (PCSA) with a Walk for Health and the opening of the 2026 Governor’s Cup, promoting wellness, sportsmanship and camaraderie among public servants on Thursday, September 3, 2026.

The activities marked the start of the month-long PCSA celebration, which recognizes the dedication and contributions of public servants across the country.

Early Thursday morning, employees from the Provincial Government of Kalinga, led by Governor James S. Edduba and Vice Governor Dave Q. Odiem, joined personnel from national government agencies and various institutions in the Walk for Health from the Rotunda to the Kalinga Sports Center in Bulanao.

The walk highlighted the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle among government workers while providing an opportunity for employees from different offices to come together.

The activity was followed by a formal program featuring 13 muses representing their respective clusters, who showcased their production numbers and introduced themselves to the participants.

Health is more than physical fitness

Guest of Honor Atty. Cheryl Daytec-Yangot, Regional Director of the Department of Migrant Workers-Cordillera, shared her personal experience with health challenges and how she overcame them.

Drawing from her experience, Daytec-Yangot emphasized that being healthy goes beyond taking care of the physical body, stressing the importance of maintaining a healthy mindset and outlook in life.

As a public servant advocating a human-rights-based approach to government service, she also urged fellow workers to serve with compassion, integrity, transparency and excellence.

“We have to know who we serve. We need to understand what they think, what they need, and what they need from us,” she said.

From walking to shooting hoops

The celebration shifted from wellness to friendly competition as a ceremonial ball toss officially opened the 2026 Governor’s Cup.

Government employees from different clusters will compete in basketball and volleyball, with the games aimed at strengthening teamwork, sportsmanship and camaraderie among public servants.

More activities are lined up throughout September as part of the PCSA celebration, including a fun run, blood donation drive and tree-planting activity, among others.

The kick-off highlighted that for Kalinga’s public servants, celebrating the Civil Service Anniversary is not only about recognizing their work—it is also about building a healthier, stronger and more united public service workforce.
