Tabuk City, Kalinga – The Provincial Health Office of Kalinga warned on Tuesday, February 15, 2022, that fully vaccinated individuals could get infected by COVID-19 anew and could develop moderate to critical illness if they do not avail booster shots.

Provincial Health Officer, Dr. Edward Tandingan, in a message sent to Guru Press Cordillera, expressed his concern over the data showing that among other provinces in the region, Kalinga has the least number of individuals who received booster doses.

Tandingan reported that as of February 15, only 11.6% or 15, 350 out of the 132, 897 fully vaccinated individuals were able to submit themselves for booster shots.

“The danger here is that the fully vaccinated adults of our province could get infected again and they could develop moderate to severe to critical COVID-19 because they did not avail of the added protection from a booster dose. Minsan lang naman ang booster dose and they could have the choice of their vaccine brand for boosting,” explained the Provincial Health Officer.

The whole provincial government led by Governor Ferdinand Tubban enjoin the office in inviting 18 years old and above to cooperate and take advantage of the booster dose.

The additional dose which serves as protection against COVID-19 was launched by the government aiming to transition to ‘the new normal’ by March 2022.

Those who received their second dose at least three (3) months ago may proceed to the vaccination sites established by the local government units. Booster shots are likewise available for all brands of vaccines at Kalinga Astrodome every Friday.

According to Tandingan, Janssen vaccines may avail of the booster after two months. They may be boosted, he said, only by AstraZeneca, Moderna or Pfizer.

Meanwhile, those who were inoculated with CoronaVac (Sinovac) can have CoronaVac, AstraZeneca, Moderna, or Pfizer as their booster; AstraZeneca, Moderna or Pfizer for those AstraZeneca, Moderna and Pfizer vaccines.

Janssen jab, he added, is not used as a booster dose.
