31-yr.-old man killed in Cagayan road mishap

Baggao, Cagayan – An accident that happened while a backhoe was being carried by a 10-wheeler truck claimed the life of a backhoe operator in Baggao, Cagayan on Monday, June 26.

While heading to a project site in Barangay San Jose, the truck driver, Neil Abarientos, 37, suddenly stopped the car to stay away from an electric wire, causing the backhoe loaded in the truck to move.

Since the backhoe does not have a stopper, it moved forward, hitting Donel Cadaba, 31, who was also on board the truck, positioned in front of the backhoe.

The rescue team of the local government unit of Baggao responded immediately after being informed of the incident.

In the assessment made by the team, the victim was already unresponsive, has bloody discharge on his ears and nose, an open fracture and avulsion in his right thigh and left tibial area, and avulsion on his left foot.

He was rushed to Baggao District Hospital but was declared dead on arrival by his attending physician, according to police.

Meanwhile, the truck driver is being held in police custody pending the possible filing of charges.

The victim is a resident of Taguing, Baggao while Abarientos is a resident of Carupian, Baggao.
