Man from Abra admits robbing and killing La Salette student in Santiago, Isabela

Isabela, Philippines – The man accused of killing a La Salette nursing student on June 18, in Santiago City has confessed to the crime a day after his arrest.

Jeffrey A. Barga who is facing a robbery case in Abra was arrested on Wednesday afternoon at a cornfield in Barangay Nabbuan. He allegedly took the tricycle from the owner he just knew from a drinking spree and disguised as a tricycle driver.

When Barga hit the road at around 4 a.m. on Sunday, Lyziel Joy Abogade happened to be waiting for a ride to church. The latter boarded the tricycle and sent its body number to her family.

At 2 p.m. that day, Abogade was found dead with her hands and feet tied. Her head was tied to a tree. Half of her face was cracked.

The police suspected that the student was hit by a bloody rock they recovered at the crime scene.

Barga went into hiding but the authorities, with the aid of the community, were able to track his location.

While at the precinct, he admitted to robbing and killing the victim. He argued that he committed the crime under the influence of alcohol.

He further denied raping Abogade and that he did not steal the tricycle.

His confession is his apology to the family and friends of the deceased.

Barga will face another case of robbery with homicide.
