Man in Cagayan kills elder brother over spending government 'ayuda'



Cagayan, Philippines – A 43-year-old farmer was declared dead on arrival in a hospital today, November 29, 2021, after he was stabbed by his younger brother who was trying to pacify a heated argument between the victim and their father.


Authorities identified the victim as Ador Castro, 43 years old, farmer, and the suspect as Jefferson Castro, 18 years old. Both are residents of Barangay Dalayap, Allacapan, Cagayan.


PMaj. Antonio Palattao, chief of PNP-Allacapan, as reported by Bombo Radyo Tuguegarao, said that Ador first argued with his father after he was confronted with buying liquor using the financial assistance the family received from the Provincial Government.


In their initial investigation, Palattao said the suspect was drinking with his elder brother and some relatives in their house when the confrontation happened. The suspect pacified the two, but the altercation went out of control, which led to the suspect stabbing his elder brother.

The suspect told the police that the victim tried to attack him first with a bolo and in self-defense stabbed his chest with a kitchen knife. The victim sustained a wound right to his chest was rushed to hospital but was declared dead on arrival.


The suspect was arrested and will be charged with homicide. The kitchen knife was secured by the police.
