Isabela, Philippines – With the spread of African Swine Fever(ASF) in some towns in Isabela, nearly 200 pigs have been culled by the authorities as of Sept. 27, 2023.

Isabela Provincial Veterinary Officer Belina Barbosa, in her interview with XFM Santiago, revealed that 194 affected hogs have been buried. Most of the figure is from Gamu.

According to her, the re-emergence of ASF in the Province of Isabela was monitored in August this year.

They believed that the highly contagious and deadly swine disease spread faster in the province due to the butchering of pigs and selling them.

As of this writing, there are 10 municipalities affected by ASF and these include Aurora, Angadanan, Alicia, Burgos, Roxas, Luna, Quirino, Mallig, Echague, and Gamu.

To prevent the escalation of the virus, ASF checkpoints have been at the Isabela borders, and the different municipalities in the province were put on alert. This is to ensure that no pigs or pork easily get through the province.

Authorities are likewise on a campaign to raise awareness, particularly to hog raisers on how to take care of pigs and how to prevent them from contracting ASF.
