P.1B illegal drugs confiscated in Kalinga in 3 months


Tabuk City, Kalinga – Illegal drugs remain to be one of the concerns yet to be fully solved in the country.

A testament to this is the P22.27 billion worth of illegal drugs confiscated by the anti-narcotics operatives in the Philippines from July 2022 to May 2023.


According to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, the contraband seized during said period include 3,033.79 kilograms of ‘shabu’; 19.51 kgs of cocaine; 43,939 pieces of ecstasy; and 2,425.16 kgs of marijuana.


In Kalinga, the amount of illegal drugs confiscated by the police from April 1 – June 28, 2023, was estimated to be P117,491,679.86.

These illegal drugs were taken from 31 operations – marijuana eradication, police response, interdiction, buy-bust, and implementation of search warrants.


Data from the Kalinga Police Provincial Office which was presented during the Kalinga Provincial Council for Peace and Order meeting on August 22 showed that the majority of the seized illegal drugs were fully grown marijuana plants.


The illegal weeds discovered and burned were worth P106,560,000.


Apart from these fully grown marijuana plants, P10,717,200 worth of its dried stalks and leaves were recovered by the operatives from April to June. Moreover, P442.38 worth of marijuana hashish was likewise seized.


Lastly, P214,037.48 worth of ‘shabu’ was recovered by the police from operations on said months.
