P.3M machinery granted to Balbalan Farmers for sugar production

Updated: Jul 20, 2022

Balbalan, Kalinga – A farmer organization in Barangay Balantoy Balbalan was granted P320,000 worth mechanical sugarcane presser as means to enhance their sugar production.

The grant was provided by the Provincial Department of Agriculture – Special Area for Agricultural Development (DA-SAAD) to Bolo-Nawoy-Kilayon-Ligayan Farmers Association (BNKLFA) on Tuesday, July 12, 2022.

It is said that the equipment make the processing of raw materials easier and faster, aiding the farmers’ production.

To ensure that objectives are achieved, the farmer-beneficiaries were trained by the agriculture department on the usage of the machine before the turnover was made.

Meantime, receiving the machine, according to the recipients, is a dream come true, saying the equipment will be of great help in the organization.

“Iti maintenance na, namnamaen yu nga agsuccess daytuy. Ket siguro nu adda produksyon na kayat mi man nga idawat kuma nga tumulong kayu nga mangi-advertise tapnu agbibyag daytoy nga natrabaho tayo,” conveyed Board of Director Pablo Dongnga.

Training for product promotion

The agriculture department assured the provision of training on processing, packaging, labelling, and marketing, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) by the third quarter of this year. This is to aid the organization for a more effective product promotion.

Meanwhile, the local government of Balbalan led by Mayor Almar Malannag guaranteed support to the farmers’ product marketing in the municipality.

The BNKLFA is an organization which benefitted from the End Local Communist Armed Conflict (ELCAC) barangay program of the national government. The organization has received assistance from the department due to their hard work and dedication.

In November 2021, DA-SAAD in the province gave 26,066 sugarcane cuttings to BNKLFA.

“The group now tills an additional 2.016 hectares that is expected to yield 5 tons sugarcane to be harvested by December 2022,” said the provincial agriculture department.
