P.4B marijuana plants destroyed in Tinglayan

Tinglayan, Kalinga – Nearly half billion worth of marijuana plants were destroyed in a weeklong operation in Tinglayan from February 23 to March 3, 2022, Kalinga Police Provincial Office reported.

With Oplan Herodotus II, different units of KPPO together with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and the Philippine Army burned a total of P426,949,920.00 worth of illegal plants from 3 barangays in Tinglayan in the recent days.

Fully grown marijuana plants, stalks, and dried leaves were discovered from 57 plantation sites with a total land area of 161,850 square meters.

Additionally, during the eradication, 3 suspected cultivators were arrested on February 28 after the operating personnel saw them allegedly harvesting marijuana plants.

The massive burning of marijuana plants and dried leaves is part of the campaign to clear the remaining drug-affected barangays in Tinglayan.

In a statement, Acting Kalinga Police Provincial Director, Police Colonel Peter Tagtag Jr. conveyed that they will sustain their anti-drug operations to reduce and destroy the supply of marijuana in Kalinga.

“We need to sustain more operations and regularly visit those plantations to prevent its resurgence,” he stated.

Meanwhile, Tagtag in an earlier interview with Guru Press, also mentioned that checkpoints in the province have been intensified with the deployment of drug-sniffing dogs at checkpoints to monitor and intercept the transport of illegal drugs.
