P17M water supply project of Tinglayan now operational

Updated: Mar 26, 2022

Tinglayan, Kalinga – The whole of Tinglayan municipal compound along with Tinglayan Central School, the Rural Health Unit, and the soon to be constructed ‘Umunnoyan’ Hospital are now assured of enough supply of water with the newly constructed P17 million worth water supply project.

The Municipal Information Office, in a press release, said the local government unit headed by Mayor Sacrament Gumilab together with the elders held a blessing ceremony of the water supply project on March 11, 2022.

Gumilab narrated that the idea of the project was proposed by Congressman Allen Jesse Mangaoang when he attended the construction of Phase 1 of the 5-storey municipal building, dubbed as “Ag-akapur Wai Munisipyo Nan Tinglayan” or The Dream Town Hall of Tinglayan.

The mayor had a discussion with Mangaoang and both agreed that the new municipal hall would be unsanitary without a stable supply of water.

The proposal for the construction of the water supply project was then proposed in 2020 for funding. In 2021, the construction began.

“This water supply project is a preparation to supply the 5-storey “Ag-akapur” municipal building, 3-storey RHU building and Umunnoyan Hospital of the municipality because we believe that even though we have beautiful buildings if there's no water to maintain the operation and cleanliness of the buildings, the same would be useless. It would become dirty and unsanitary… since water is sourced out underground through drilling, expenses used in maintenance are reduced compared to when we tap the water from the top of the mountain because it’s already here,” Gumilab stated.

The mayor is confident that the water supply project, which can contain 20,000 gallons, would solve water shortages that may arise in the coming years, especially in times of disasters and calamities.
