Pasil Slow Food Community wins Mangan Taku 2022 Chef Competition award

Baguio City, Philippines – The Slow Food Community in Pasil that represented Kalinga Province at the Mangan Taku (Let’s Eat) Festival 2022 has won an award with a cash incentive from the Department of Tourism – Cordillera and Baguio City LGU in said event.


Participating Chefs Rowena Gonnay and Rizalyn Dangiw featured the ‘Inanchila,’ a famous local delicacy during the conduct of Mangan Taku food brawl and exhibition staged on April 27 to 30, 2022 at the Wright Park Reflection Pool, Baguio City.


Gonnay, the Agriculture Extension Worker of Pasil, earlier explained that they chose to highlight the globally recognized indigenous dish for its preservation.

The participating chef expressed holding the banner of the province was challenging especially that they were competing with chefs from well-known universities.


“Ngem very proud kami a napili a mangi-represent ti province para iti daytoy nga 3rd Mangan Tako Festival in celebration for the Filipino Food Month Celebration. Cook local, eat local,” added Gonnay.

Pasil Slow Food Community received P6,000 prize and a Certificate of Recognition after placing fourth in the competition. According to Mylene Tauli of DOT – Cordillera, 10 entities were shortlisted, but only seven were present during the actual activity.


Gonnay expressed gratitude to Mayor Alfredo ‘Chao-ig’ Malannag Jr. for his all-out support in the various tourism activities in the municipality such as the Slow Food Movement. She likewise thanked the sponsoring department for their invitation to represent the whole province.


“Kadagiti amin nga immay nagbisita ti booth, ket di maramanan da diay inanchila saan da inturugan ket nagsublida namintallo ti inawis da; dagiti kakailyan nga yKalinga idiay Baguio, saan lang nga 5 alaenda, tupperware pakarga da a gatangen, salamat la unay ken Dios ti mangbendisyun para ti teamwork dagiti Slow Food Team from Pasil LGU nga nangi-represent ti Kalinga, thank you very much,” said the participating chef.
