Tabuk City, Kalinga – The number of members of Communist Terrorist Groups being monitored in the Cordillera is now less than a hundred, says 5th Infantry Division Commander.

The 5th ID’s areas of responsibility in the Cordillera Administrative Region include Abra, Apayao, Benguet, Kalinga, Ifugao, and Mountain Province.

In a press statement of the 5th ID, Major General Laurence Mina noted the weakening force of the CTG members being monitored in region CAR saying, “threats from Communist Terrorist Groups (CTG) in Cordillera is irrelevant.”

Surrender of rebels for the past 2 years

Based on their record, there were 8 high-value rebels that were neutralized from 2019 to 2021 in CAR.

Additionally, there were also 52 regular CTG members, 107 NPA in the barrios, and 44 underground members of the Komiteng Larangang Guerilla North Abra, KLG Ampis, KLG Baggas all of Ilocos-Cordillera Regional Committee and West Front, Komiteng Rehiyon-Cagayan Valley in Northern Apayao surrendered to the government.

Turning their back to the CPP-NPA-NDF was said to be fueled by hunger, demoralization, and the hardships they experienced in the movement.

Meantime, the 503rd Infantry Brigade situated in Tabuk City, Kalinga have been accorded with a plaque of kapayapaan from President Rodrigo Duterte after successfully dismantling the KLG Ifugao.

Other accomplishments

CTG war materials, 28 anti-personnel mines, and 80 high-powered and 14 low-powered firearms, were recovered by the government troops.

Apart from these, 15 camps of rebels have been wiped out through the help of their former comrades and through the cooperation of the community in the anti-insurgency campaign.

In clearing barangays influenced by NPAs in Cordillera, 8 have been successfully cleared, 12 have been subjected to the Joint AFP-PNP Intelligence Committee validation, and 22 barangays are ready for initial validation.

Major General Mina guaranteed that the government troops will continuously work to convince the remaining rebels to lay down their arms and have a peaceful life.

“The integral efforts of all the government agencies, security forces, stakeholders, locals, and former rebels will surely put an end to the five-decade terroristic activities of the CTGs in Cordillera Region,” Mina stated.
