Senior citizen buried alive in Kabayan landslide

Kabayan, Benguet – A senior citizen in Kabayan died after getting buried due to soil erosion on Monday, November 1, 2021.

The victim was identified by police as Ernesto Kidmano Ananayo, 66, a resident of Sitio Cotcot, Poblacion, Kabayan, Benguet.

Initial investigation reveals that Ananayo went to the riverside early morning of Monday to pan gold and build rip-rap at the riverside, but he was reported missing at 8:30 PM on the same day.

Search and retrieval operation was immediately conducted by the personnel of Kabayan Municipal Police Station, Bureau of Fire Protection-Kabayan, Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council and some concerned citizens.

At the place of the incident, responders saw the victim's belongings: a brown jacket, a cellphone, and cash on the site.

The victim was found at around 9:55 PM covered with soil and sand, and was immediately brought to the Rural Health Unit of Kabayan, but was declared dead on arrival.
