Tinglayan, Kalinga – The Philippine National Police – Cordillera emphasized they are serious with the campaign against illegal drugs, citing the confiscation and burning of around P8 billion worth of marijuana since 2016.

Deputy Regional Director for Operations of PNP-CAR, PCol. Ronald Gayo on October 20 reported the destruction of seized marijuana and its by-products in the region, saying the Police Regional Office Cordillera (PROCor) will keep working hard and prevent the illegal weed to be transported to other parts of the country.

“Nu dagitoy ket mabaybay-an a rimwar iti pagilyan tayo, rimwar ditoy probinsiya tayo, napan iti Metro Manila, napan iti region 1, dakkel iti perdien na. Adu iti perdien na lalo na dagitoy u-ubbing, itong mga kabataan,” he said.

In their bid to end the problem of Marijuana cultivation in Tinglayan and to look for a lasting solution, PROCor initiated the convention with the Tinglayan Local Government Unit and its elders last Thursday.

The result is the consensus on drafting a comprehensive plan to address it.

“Despite nga adayu daytoy lugar, adda ‘toy kami, adda ditoy dagitoy head of offices ng line agencies, ipakpakita mi nga seryoso kami tungkol daytoy war on drugs, seryoso kami apo,” he said.

To date, marijuana plantations in Tinglayan are concentrated in the mountains of Chumancil (Sumangchil), Kasablutan, Bitullayungan, and Chalanap. Small plantation sites were also said to be present in Barangays Bugnay, Buscalan, Ngibat, and Tulgao West.
