Want to be a scholar? Tabuk City's scholarship fund raised to 20M

Tabuk City, Kalinga ─ More underprivileged, but aspiring students could now complete higher education level with the Enhanced Tabuk City Scholarship Program.


Members of the Sangguniang Panlungsod presided by Vice Mayor Bernard Glenn Dao-as gave the green light to the Ordinance ‘Enhancing the Scholarship Program of the City Local Government of Tabuk’ during their regular session today, June 03, at Las Vegas Hotel.


The ordinance reads that the city has established an access mechanism to tertiary education for its poor but deserving students recognizing education as priority program.


Said ordinance covers the completion of college, senior high and technical-vocational education for at least one member in each family in the city, ensuring their productive and meaningful participation as constituents of the city.


The aim is to ensure the completion of a college education of one family member in each family. This will not only improve the grantees’ social and economic standing but will likewise boost the development of the city by maintaining skilled and educated workforce which is vital for economic growth.

How much assistance shall be given?


Furthermore, the ordinance mentioned of the need to increase the fund allocation for the city’s scholarship program and to devise a system that will ensure greater number of grantees and participation, as well as maintain its sustainability.


With this, a minimum amount of Php20,000,000 shall be included in the city’s Annual Budget as Scholarship/Financial Assistance Program Fund. If there is an increase in the number of qualified grantee, the annual appropriation shall likewise be increased.

A qualified scholarship beneficiary shall have the option to take any course of his/her choice and to enroll in any educational institution within the city


Every grantee in college, degree, non-degree or senior high school, shall receive PhP5,000 pesos per semester to cover tuition and matriculation fees or subsistence allowance.


While, those enrolled in Technical–Vocational courses shall receive PhP5,000 for the whole course.


Additionally, incentives of graduating students shall be granted to Summa Cum Laude amounting to 20,000, Magna Cum Laude for 15,000 and Cum Laude for 10,000.
