The victims were a 5-year-old, 13-year-old, and 14-year-old residents of Magsaysay.

Initial investigation of the Tabuk City police revealed that it was around 11:55 p.m. when a ‘kwitis’ set off from the other side of the road went straight to one of the firecracker stores in Purok 4, landing on a bundle of ‘kwitis’. This triggered explosions from the pyrotechnic devices, setting the stalls in the area on fire.

People who were at the location at the time were seen running away from the blasts – however, the three victims were unable to avoid getting injured. Local authorities said they sustained minor abrasions on their hands and feet, and that they were all rushed to the Kalinga Provincial Hospital for medical treatment.
