Updated: Jan 15, 2021

Tinglayan, Kalinga – Around 60 health personnel in the municipality underwent stress debriefing on Tuesday to reduce stress related problems and possible trauma as well as boost their morale, said Mayor Sacrament Gumilab during an interview today, January 14,2021.

According to the mayor, the personnel were given group and individual emotional and psychological support to encourage them to continue giving their best, emphasizing the importance of the role they play especially in this time of pandemic.

“Nireview mi ngay dagidiay actions taken, dagidiay strengths ti municipality idi Covid last year, nairuwar dagidiay health personnels tayu dagiti nakastressan da, kasla ngay nga stress debriefing tapnu maikkan da ti high morale dagituy nga employees tayu nga taga health,” Gumilab said.

“Nabagaan da nga kasdiay nga talaga ti trabahu, amin ngamin nga profession ket adda ti time nga matest iti patience da ken diay ability da, kas kadagiti uniformed personnel tayo ket nakaad-adu ti agsacsacrifice nga pulis ken military para kadatayu nga umili,” he added.

The health personnel, according to the mayor, have been having a hard time with residents who disobey adivosires and violate rules and regulations, with some outrightly defying minimum health protocols. Additionally, there are also those who focus too much on the troubles they have to undergo because of the implementation of the protocols.

“Anusan yu nu anya man ti ibagbaga dagituy tattau nga negative points, dagidiay nasusulpeng nga tattao, that is just part of our labor of love, patience of work…,” Gumilab stressed, adding that as long as they are doing their job, time will come that people will appreciate all their efforts in making sure that the spread of the virus will be controlled.

“Haan tayu madismaya iti makapasakit nga sao ti tau nu ienforce tayu ti trabahu tayu ta normal iti tau dayta ta haan met nga agpaprehas ti panunut iti tattao nga maawatan da amin nga sitwasyon, dagita ti challenge ket han kuma nga maapektaran ti trabahu,” the mayor said.

Some of the work of the health personnel include contact tracing, monitoring of Covid-19 patients, segregation of primary and secondary contacts of Covid-19 patients, management of logistics and relay of information to the public regarding minimum health standards and their regular work on assisting other patients in need of medical assistance.

In December last year, Tinglayan was a hotspot of the Covid-19 virus which alarmed the municipality making them decide for a 15-day lockdown.

During the said period, it was the health personnel who has to sacrifice much of their time and health, with several getting infected with the virus due to the performance of their duties.
