Tinglayan LGU crafts Climate Change Action Plan

Tabuk City, Kalinga – The Local Government Unit of Tinglayan is currently crafting its Local Climate Change Action Planidentifying areas and structures in the municipality that are hazard risk, while recommending adaption and mitigation measures to lessen the impact of calamities that may arise due to climate change.


Tinglayan LGU officials, sector representatives, members of the Sangguniang Bayan and the Municipal Risk and Reduction Management started crafting the plan on Tuesday, April 27, 2021 to be finalized next week.

In an interview, Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Officer Benedicto Dalignoc said that local government units are mandated to formulate said action plan to address climate change issues, adding that it focuses on both climate change adaptation and mitigation.

“Babaen daytuy LCCAP, makita ti LGU dagiti possible impacts ket ma-planu da nu anya ti prevention a maaramid, activities a mai-prepare tapnu kasta ket ma-prebentaran nu han man, ket ma-lessen ti effect na iti aglawlaw ken komunidad,” he added.



The Municipality of Tinglayan just like other towns in the province, the MDRRM officer said is vulnerable to the impacts of climate change such as landslide and flood.


Dalignoc disclosed that the geographical characteristic of all the barangays in Tinglayan made them vulnerable to landslides.


“However, ti panang-identify tayu ket based on local experience ket makitkita tayu talaga dagiti areas a prone ti landslide isu siguru ti kasapulan a maiyaramidan ti planu tapnu nu sumangpet man ti didigra , han unay a maapektaran ti community,” he said.

For flood-prone areas, although have not reached the critical level yet, he said areas to be identified are those barangays adjacent to Chico river.


One barangay, he cited is Barangay Ambato that if flooded with the swelling of the Chico River it would affect over 90 families residing in the area.
