Tinglayan Rescue Team sent to save fellow yKalinga, ended rescuing all people on their rooftops

Updated: Nov 18, 2020

Tinglayan, Kalinga― Local Government Unit (LGU) of Tinglayan Rescue Team led by Mayor Sacrament Gumilab went to Sta. Maria, Isabela and participated in rescuing numerous stranded individuals trapped on their rooftops due to flooding brought by Typhoon ‘Ulysses’.

Mayor Sacrament Gumilab narrated in an interview that in November 13, a ‘kailyan’ residing in the Municipality of Sta. Maria together with her kids was asking for help because their barangay was submerged in flood water and needed to be transported in a safe place as soon as possible.

Despite the fact that the said LGU was reserving their equipment for the standby rescue team in their municipality, a team fitted out with rescue equipment from the Kalinga Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) was immediately assembled and went to the area.

“We went there and we are very happy because we helped a lot. There were many people on their rooftops. You cannot just close your eyes and get back to Kalinga, so we decided to help the entire people of Sta. Maria as long as we can… so inabot kami ng gabi,” he uttered.

Additionally, the team accompanied by an official of Sta. Maria LGU also assisted in the delivery of food packs to families prepared by the LGU Sta. Maria.

Gumilab lauded his team for their bravery and willingness to sacrifice for the safety of the people even outside the municipality.

“Awan ngay diay hesitation, adda latta diay ganagay nga tumulong ket diay ti maappreciate unay kada isuda sapay kuma ta agtultuloy nga kasdiay napaspas ti panagtulong, adda latta diay spirit nga Bayanihan nga kunkuna tayo ken diay panagsymphathy ti fellow Filipino citizen,” he said.
