Lubuagan, Kalinga―Travelers taking a journey break at the Pukok View Deck were told not to leave their trash in the said area.

Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Officer-Designate Ailleen Melody Alya-on reminded this following several incidents of garbage piling up in the area, left by travelers after taking their meal and snack during a stopover.

Alya-on said that a group even left food wrappers placed in a sack and some left scattering garbage on the ground.

Said view deck located at the entry point of Barangay Dangoy is provided with free flowing water and a shed for sightseers to enjoy the panoramic view of Lubuagan town.

Alya-on said that travelers passing through may enjoy the view and take photos of the town while taking a break but reiterated that they should also be responsible to keep the place pleasant and clean.

“Di kalman nag-picture diyay staff ko then idi nag-monitor kami adda ti basura idiay a puro nanganan from fast food chains ken bottled water, nag stopover da syempre view deck ngarud ang problema ibati da ti nanganan da idiay,” she laments.

Alya-on explained that the absence of sanitary landfill is the reason behind why garbage bins are not placed in the area. The local government, she said, has to reduce the generation of waste in the area.

“Ngem nu ibaga da nga apay n gamin nga awan ti basurahan, ayaw naming maglagay ng basurahan kasi ayaw naming iwanan nga nila ang mga basura nila doon, wala kaming sanitary landfill wala kaming final disposal na facility so mas maymayat iyawid da kuma,” she explained.

She then calls on travelers who may pass by the area to be responsible and heed the imposed protocols of the local government. Thus, the simple act of bringing their trash with them when they leave would help in the campaign to reduce waste volume.

“Be responsible, we acknowledged nga along the highway ang Lubuagan that is an advantage for us, pero sana proper disposal ng basura nila especially yung mga disposable na packaging, yung mga baon nila na wag nilang iwan, iuwi nila kasi with the absence of sanitary landfill we cannot collect garbage,” Alya-on underscored.
