Tabuk City, Kalinga – Acting Vice-Mayor of the City of Tabuk, Atty. Zorayda Mia Wacnang, encouraged women to uplift each other, celebrate each other’s success and not tear down each other.

Wacnang, in her message during the Women’s Month program of the city held in front of the City Hall this March 10, 2022, underscored understanding of differences.

“While we may have differences in political beliefs, opinion, or position, we can always defend these without tearing each other down, without putting each other down. Instead nga i-chismiss or you degrade the other person’s personality, we uplift each other, we celebrate each other’s success, and encourage each other to be better,” related Wacnang.

Wacnang said the celebration is important for the recognition of achievement and significant contribution of women to the various sectors in the locality.

“Hindi matatawaran ang ambag ng kababaihan sa ating lipunan,” the Acting Vice-Mayor stressed in her message.

Commemoration of struggles of Women’s Movement

According to Wacnang, another reason for the annual observance is the commemoration of the struggles of the women’s movement which led to the empowerment being felt today.

She related the situation before when women cannot vote, own property, or chart their own destiny.

“Amirisen tayo dagiay struggle nga nagapgapwan ti kababaihan idi nga awan pay lang ti karbengan tayo enggana tatta nga we have already the right to vote, the right to own property, the right to chart our own destiny and education launay,” said the Acting Vice-Mayor.

Now there are laws passed for the protection and empowerment of women.

Wacnang also challenged the women in Tabuk to continue on with the struggle, to help each other, and speak up as some parts of the world are still battling cases of domestic abuse and discrimination.

Break the notion that women are relegated to the background

The Acting Vice-Mayor likewise said the celebration serves as a reminder for the community to break the notion that women are relegated to the background because women can be at the forefront as leaders and catalysts of change.

“The popular saying that “Behind every great man is a woman” which means that the success of a man attributed to the woman is good ngem maymayat manen nu kuna tayo nga ti babai ket han lang kuma nga adda ti likudan ti lalaki ngem adda kuma iti abay na, adda ti sangwanan na,” added Wacnang.
