Apayao, Philippines ̶ The Province of Apayao documented the highest dengue cases in the Cordillera region for the first six months of 2022. This is according to the data of the DOH -Cordillera.
Apayao recorded 712 cases from January 1 - to June 4 this year, higher by 5,375% when compared to the 15 cases it had for the same period in 2021.
Two of the 712 cases succumbed to the mosquito-borne disease.
Next to Apayao is Benguet with 665 dengue cases. Said province saw an increase of 135% compared to the 297 cases it logged in 2021.
Kalinga came third with 415 cases, 1,876% higher than the ones recorded for the same period last year.
Abra had 14 cases; Ifugao, 164; Mountain Province, 78; and Baguio City, 264 cases.
According to the Department of Health, there were a total of 25,268 dengue cases in the country from January to May 2022. This is lower by 6% when compared to the 27,010 last year.
The DOH, however, observed that people being infected with the mosquito-borne disease in the Philippines increased at the end of March 2022.
