Baguio City, Philippines – The Bureau of Internal Revenue - Cordillera (BIR-CAR) is among the top 10 highest in collection nationwide in their tax collection performance in 2021, a top regional official said Wednesday, May 18, 2022.

Aside from this, the agency exceeded in their collection target by over P400 million or almost 10 percent of their target.

“I am proud to announce that BIR-CAR is one of the top 10 nationwide in achieving our collection target. For the year 2021, we have exceeded our assigned goal by P4oo million plus, almost 10 percent of our annual goal for year 2021,” BIR-CAR Director Douglas Rufino said.

According to the agency, their target for 2021 is P5.5 billion, but surpassed their goal as they obtained a tax collection of P5.9 billion.

Rufino said that a major factor that helped them in achieving their goal is teamwork, not only by the employee of BIR-CAR, but also the tax payers in the region.

“We didn’t have to resort to closures in order to make our taxpayer as compliant as they could possibly be,” Rufino added.

In the data provided by Rufino, it showed that all revenue district offices in the region had positive outcome in the tax collection process – Abra, 6.9%; Baguio City, 6.77%; Benguet, 5.5%; Mountain Province, 7.07%; Kalinga-Apayao, 5.59%; and Ifugao, 4.13% .

“Although, Ifugao [province] least perform, all other districts have excelled,” he stated.

According to Rufino, the collected tax came from excise tax, income tax, value-added tax, percentage tax, and other taxes, with income tax recording the majority of the collection.

Further, he said that almost 70 percent of the region’s total collection came from the summer capital, from which they collected P2.93 billion exceeding their P2.85 billion target collection in 2021.

For 2022, the agency is tasked to collect P7.1 billion and from January to April, they have already collected P2.38 billion.
