Former OFW dies in Abra road mishap

Peñarrubia, Abra – A 62-year-old man died after his 'kulong-kulong' overshot a road in an accident-prone area in Sta. Rosa, Peñarrubia, Abra.

The victim left their house early morning on Wednesday, January 31, to check on his cows, according to his wife. Later, he headed to Sta. Rosa to catch wild chickens.

A few hours later, police were notified of a road accident along the provincial road at Sitio Bayabas, Sta. Rosa.

Upon arrival at the scene, they found the victim lying face down near his 'kulong-kulong.'

Initial investigations revealed that the victim, identified by police as Zaldy Manggad, an ex-overseas worker and a resident of San Ramon West, Manabo, Abra, might have overshot the sharp curve at the site of the incident.

As a result, he suffered a head injury, according to police.

Although he was promptly transported to the Abra Provincial Hospital, he was declared dead on arrival.

Meanwhile, his family suspects foul play in the incident based on statements made by his wife in an interview with local media.
