Kalinga cultural dance and music showcased in Lubuagan-Peñarrubia peace-pact

Lubuagan, Kalinga – Keeping the Kalinga traditional dance and music alive, the different barangays in Lubuagan and a barangay from Pasil performed on rare occasion various Kalinga cultural dances and music on April 24, 2022 at the Awichon Cultural Village.


The said event was made a contested activity done during the Pre-Galiged Chi Bodong between Lubuagan and Peñarrubia.

The National Commission for Culture and the Arts Executive Director, Oscar Casaysay who was represented by Carl Sebastian, commended Lubuagan for initiating the Cultural and Music Presentation which he said gave an avenue for the cultural dancers and musicians to showcase their talents.


“As the primary government mandated to promote and conserve the Philippine Arts and Culture, the NCCA is one with the program and activities such as this event – the Cultural Dance and Music Competition which aims to support our dancers, artists, and cultural workers,” he said.

The NCCA reaffirmed solidarity and unit in the conservation, preservation, and promotion of arts, culture, and tradition in the country.


“We are wishing for more continuous support and cooperation in initiating meaningful activities and programs such as this event. Like the dancers, may we continue to dance gracefully and move forward as one community in the time of pandemic and beyond,” he said.


Contested activities

Performers from the different barangays in Lubuagan including Barangay Dangtalan, Pasil competed on Kalinga dances like Tachok, Tuppayya, and Challichog.


Apart from these, there were the playing of indigenous musical instruments such as Tungali, Ullibew, Kullibit, and Ullimong.


Moreover, the participants performed chants and songs like the Uggayam, Ullallim, and Salidummay.


Winners


Tachok: First place - Barangay Dangtalan, Pasil; Second place - senior high school students from Lubuagan; Third place - Barangay Poblacion; Fourth place - Mabilong, Lubuagan

Tupayya: First place - Barangay Poblacion; Second place - Lower Uma

Chllichog: First places – Poblacion; Second place - senior high school students

Tungali (mouth flute) category: First place - Poblacion won; Second place - Barangay Dangtalan

Kullibit: First place – Poblacion; Second place - Mabilong

Tungali (nose flute): First place - Barangay Mabilong

Ullimong: First place - Barangay Uma; Second place - Mabilong

Uggayam: First place - Eastern Uma; Second place - Lower Uma

Ullalim: Barangay Uma - Champion

Salidummay: First place - Barangay Dangtalan; Second place - Mabilong


Winners and runner-ups were awarded with cash prizes.
