Tabuk City, Kalinga – Five units of new ambulance from the Provincial Local Government Unit were turned over to the different district hospitals as well as to the Kalinga Provincial Hospital and Provincial Health Office this Friday, March 5.

These five are among the six procured by the PLGU as additional medical transport of the district hospitals as well as the KPH and PHO. The remaining ambulance shall be delivered at a later date.

Said ambulances cost P1.5 million each, with 3 having been funded by the Local Disaster Risk Reduction Management Trust Fund 2019 and Supplemental Budget No 4. The other two of the six, according to Executive Assistant Elizabeth Balais III, were funded from the Capital Outlay.

During the turnover ceremony of the 5 medical vehicles at the façade of the provincial capitol building, members of the Provincial Council on Values Formation prayed over the vehicles before they were given to the receiving beneficiaries, Kalinga District Hospital, Pinukpuk District Hospital, Western Kalinga District Hospital, KPH, and PHO.

Meantime, Governor Ferdinand Tubban, in an interview, explained that the arrival of these ambulances took time because of the procurement process which must be followed.

“Long – awaited kuna ta garud, ngem diay iti difference iti government. Adda iti proseso tayo, procurement act haan a kasla private a nu adda diay pondo, inala mon, mapan mo ginatang en,” he furthered.

The Governor stressed that the procurement was important especially during this pandemic, adding that with the ambulances the district hospitals as well as the KPH and PHO shall be enabled to improve their services.

“Kasla met lang diay kuna ni pastor amin met a tattao, even luglugan ket agpatingga latta met iti biag na dayta, it’s now on dagiay ni district hospitals and the KPH on how they will maintain tapnu iti kasta ket umat-atiddug iti biag na,” he said.

Tubban said that another ambulance shall be given to the Juan M Duyan District Hospital in Rizal. The funding came from the PLGU's 2020 General Fund.

These ambulances were requested by the different District Hospital Chief during an Inter-Agency Task Force meeting last year. The ambulance, they said, will provide more efficient health services to the people and better response to Covid-19.
