Magnao-Nambucayan accepted “papod” from Naneng subtribe, saving their peace pact

Updated: Mar 6, 2021

Tabuk City, Kalinga – The peace pact between Magnao-Nambucayan and Naneng shall continue to exist as peace pact holders of the former accepted the “papod” from Naneng on Thursday, March 5, 2021.

Accepting the “papod” or peace offering, according to Emmanuel Abadilla, Secretary of the Provincial Bodong Council of Elders (PBCE), means no revenge shall be carried out by the sub tribes of Magnao-Nambucayan over the death of Denver Tubban and hospitalization of Jemer Ewad Belong.

Tubban and Ewad were victims of the shooting incident which happened on the night of February 15 in Purok 6, Bulanao by a member of the Naneng tribe.

According to PNP Kalinga, the suspect, Denmark Baddongon, 33, and member of the Philippine Army, shot Tubban eight times: one on the neck, 3 on the chest, a shot on his left arm and lower back, and 2 shots on his upper back.

The latter was rushed to the hospital but was not able to make it.

Ewad, who came to help Tubban, was also shot by the suspect. He was later taken to the hospital and is now in a stable condition.

Immediacy of solving the issue to prevent possible conflict

According to the PBCE, Governor Ferdinand Tubban urged them to immediately resolve the issue to keep both communities at peace since the suspect already surrendered to proper authorities.

In a statement by the governor, he said no revenge should be made as the pain caused by a death of a family member is too much and he doesn’t want that pain to be experienced by others.

“Isu haan tayun kayat nga adda ti dadduma pay nga makarikna ti kastuy. Haan tayu kayat nga manayunan pay ti biyag nga maisakripisyo,” the governor said.

“Bay-an tayo dagituy korte tayo nga mangsolbar dituyen. It is no use putting justice in our hands. Let us trust the justice system that we have and keep praying. What matters now is that these two tribes live peacefully together without any doubts tapnu haan met nga mataktak ti eskwela, wennu trabaho da,” he added.

The incident, the governor, said should serve as a mirror for others and should not happen again.

“Dagituy tu sumaruno nga henerasyon iti mangipakita nga gapu dituy nga peace pact ket karu a simmayaat da." he said.
